Project management is all about meeting deadlines and making every task completely visible by using clear communications. Without a solid team behind you, these goals would be impossible. As well as constantly updating clients and stakeholders, you must ensure that you have access to the best tools possible. This is not always easy as your accessibility can sometimes cause issues. A modern day project manager is required to be in many places at the same time, and that’s putting it mildly. Fortunately those boffins over at Apple have helped to develop some very project-friendly applications that seem to offer some pretty cool solutions to that dilemma. This article looks at a few of these little helpers for you right now!
Project Management apps for iPhone users
Merlin – Project Management by ProjectWizards – Free (iTunes link)
Our first app will run on your iPhone and iPad and requires iOS 3.1.3 or later to run smoothly. Merlin has been designed to allow those mobile project managers the ability to keep tabs on everything whilst they are out of the office. Merlin has already become an established favourite on the Apple desktop and this little beauty extends that onto the iPhone and other Apple handheld gadgets. It has the ability to access your favourite Merlin Project tools such as WLAN, EDGE & UTMS. You can upload diagrams and photos to relevant project tools and manipulate and update all of your live tasks. The Gantt chart feature is extremely useful and centralises all of the progression in a very tidy format. You also have the very useful offline feature that allows you to have visibility if no connection exists, although this will obviously be subject to update issues once back online. Overall this is a very intuitive piece of software that ties up nicely with Merlin 2.7 releases. You can also get a free demo version, but we say just go with the full version, also free!
LiquidPlanner by LiquidPlanner Inc – Free (iTunes link)
This app will run on your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, and it will require iOS 5.0 or later for smooth running. LiquidPlanner is another iOS app that is designed with the portable project manager on its mind. And it delivers the good in some kind of style! You will always feel connected to your current projects when using this app and the latest release, LiquidPlanner 4.0, has even more super cool tricks up its considerable sleeves. Unlike many other mobile project manager apps, this one offers just as much desirability for the stakeholders as well as your team members. One of the biggest challenges in a modern project is keeping the stakeholders in the loop at all times. LiquidPlanner allows them to keep connected with all tasks and objective related matters. Stakeholders will be able to dial into this awesome app wherever they may be and keep the customers in the picture regarding delivery dates and any issues that may cause a future delay. Your team can also stay constantly connected and you will all have the visibility required to hit your targets no matter where in the world you may be. As well as the previous releases impressive feature list, the latest release also has enhanced privacy, a more powerful API and a predicted uptime of 99.9%! We know which app will soon be back on top of the tree for all serious project managers out there!
Simply 2 Of The Best!
There is no doubt that either of these bad boy apps will add considerable value to any serious project team out there, the only problem that we foresee is choosing which one suits you best?
